+52W 1D 一歳！ One year old today!

アラタの誕生日。正確にはイギリスの23時14分生まれだから、その頃日本もニュージーランドも28日。あと1時間遅れて出てくれば面倒くさくなかったのに。とはいえ、27日がオフィシャル誕生日。今日まで滞在していた親戚と、ロンドンでのJasonの元同僚のジェイムス家族も来てくれてBBQランチをした。

Jasonが焼いたキャロットケーキがバースデーケーキ。それにしてもクリスマスと誕生日、そしてお年玉がもらえるお正月までが1週間の中に凝縮されてしまっているアラタはちょっとかわいそう？またもや対象のプレゼントをもらった。最初の写真はJasonのおばあちゃん、アラタのひいおばあちゃんと。4枚目はジェイムスのところの11ヶ月になるコナーと。

Arata's 1st birthday. We had a BBQ lunch party before all the guests at Nana's left today. Arata was born at 23.14 on 27th in the U.K. time, so actually, it was already on the 28th in NZ and Japan. Anyway, officially, today is his birghday.

Jason baked a tasty carrot cake and Arata got lots of presents again. It's a bit pity that all the exciting events, Christmas, birthday and New Year, happen within just a week for Arata. In the first Photo, Arata is with his great grandma. In the last photo, with 11 months old Coner, whose dad James was Jason's ex-colleague in London.

+51W 6D 初クリスマス Arata's first Christmas

アラタの出産予定日は去年の12月20日だったけど1週間遅れて誕生したので今年がアラタの初クリスマス。クリスマスにはJasonママのうちにイブから親戚が泊りがけで集まったので、ツリーの下にはプレゼントが山積み。こんなにたくさんのプレゼントを初めて見た日本人の私。アラタには日本からやシンガポールでもらったプレゼントまであったからすごい量。スーツケースに入るかしら・・・。

最近のアラタはウイタビックス一つとトーストを少し朝食に食べる。ニュージーランドのマーマイトはイギリスのほど強烈でないので私でも食べられる。（イギリスのは、間違って口にいれてしまっても飲み込めない・・・。）トーストに少し塗ってあげるとアラタもぱくっ！

Arata was due on 20th of December last year but arrived a week late. So it's his first Christmas. At Nana's house, quite a few relatives ave come to stay since the Christmas eve and there are lots of presents under the tree. I, as a Japanese, have never seen so many Christmas presents! Arata has got lods of presents including ones from Japan or Singapore. I wonder if we can pack all into our suitcases??

Arata has a piece of Wheet-Bix and a bit of toast for breakfast. New Xealand Marmite is not as strong as the one in the E.K., and even I can eat it. (If I put some British Marmite, I can not swallow. I have to spit it!) And of course, Arata loves toast with NZ Marmite!

+51W 5D ウエリントン In Wellington

先週の土曜日にウエリントンに到着。ナナ（Jasonママ）、Jasonの弟のエイドリアンの出迎えを受ける。翌日、早速Jasonの友達とブランチのアポで近所のカフェへ。ニュージーランドのカフェで食べる食事はおいしい！

月曜日にはナナの会社のクリスマスパーティーに参加。ビーチでのBBQパーティーだ。何人か子どもも来ていて、なにやら砂だらけのおもちゃを口に入れたりとワイルドね。と、思っていたらアラタも砂を食べはじめた。うーん、誰も止めないところを見ると、これはここではＯＫってことか・・・。そうそう、ニュージーランドのサンタは車から身を乗り出して手を振りながらビーチをやってきた。

ナナのうちの犬のルーペットと仲良くなったアラタ。彼を見るたびに、「おっ」と言って、指差すアラタ。でも口をつかんだり、目に指をつっこんだりで、火曜日にはルーペットに威嚇されて軽くかまれてしまった。それでも怖がらずにいたアラタだったが、17歳のルーペット、木曜日に安楽死した。明日はクリスマス。ナナのうちには15人前後の親戚が集まってパーティーだ。みなさん、メリークリスマス。

We arrived in Wellington on Saturday. At the airport, Jason's mum (Arata's Nana) and Adrian, Jason's broter were meeting us. On the following morning, we went to a cafe for a brunch to meet Jason's friend Ed, his wife Clare and their daughter Olivia. I was quite surprised that Cafe food in NZ is quite nice!

On Monday, we joined Jason's mum's company Christmas party. It was a BBQ party on beach. There were a couple of other kids and to my surprise, some of them were just putting toys covered with sand in their mouths. Well, soon, Arata started to 'eat' sand. And nobody stopped him so it must be New Zealand style. Well the Santa in New Zealand was coming in a car on the beach!

Arata became good friends with Rupert. Jason's mum's dog. Whenever he saw Rupert, Arata pointed at him and saying 'Ah.' Arata was too naughty to him and he put his finger into his eyes or grabbed his mouth. On Tuesday, Arata must have done something to Rupert. When we realised, Arata was lying on the floor crying. Rupert bit Arata a bit probably trying to scare him. Jason's mum is expecting more than 10 gursts from today. We will have a big Christmas party tomorrow. Havve a good Christmas!

去年の今日はアラタの出産予定日だった。帝王切開の後、次の妊娠までに一年は待つようにと言われたけれど、あと1週間でアラタの誕生日。解禁して一回で妊娠すれば、アラタの予定日だった日、12月20日が妊娠中に何回も聞かれる「最後に生理になった日」になるなあと漠然と考えた。

+50W 5D オークランド In Auckland

ニュージーランド到着。シンガポールからのフライトは大変だった。搭乗前のセキュリティーチェックうのゲートでアラタは吐いたのだ。それも私に向かって。着替えなんてないから、げぼシャツのままニュージーランドへ行くことに・・・。時差ぼけと暑気あたり、そして搭乗ゲートまでJasonに急ぎ足で抱かれていたので「酔った」様子。

オークランドに二日滞在。以前SCSで働いていたともちゃんと再会。ご主人のデニスも交えて食事をした。彼女は現在SPCAという動物保護団体で働いているので、彼女の職場を訪問した。アラタは犬や猫をたくさん見て喜んでいた。

オークランドはオリエンタルが多くて、韓国語やマンダリンが飛び交っていた。韓国語のメニューしかない食堂なんてのもあって、もちろん私たちはそこでおいしいコリアンを食べた。しかし、オークランド寒いぞ。本当に夏なのかしら？

Arrived in New Zealand. Well, it was not a plain sailing. Arata threw up at the security gate before getting on board at Changi Airport. He did it onto my shirt. Of course, I didn't have another shirt and I had to fly in the smelly clothes. He must have been suffering from jet lag, heat and motion sicknes as he had been carried by Jason in the airport for a while.

We stayed in Auckland for 3 nights. We met Tomoko, who used to work in SCS in London. We had dinner with her and her husband Dennis. She now works for SPCA, animal rescue center, and we also visited her work place to see dogs and cats. Arta loved to watch them.

There are so many oriental people in Auckland. I can only hear Korean or Mandarin. There are many oriental restaurants and we chose a Korean restaurant that only has Korean menu! And we were right. It was nice. Well, anyway, it's not hot here. Is it really in summer in New Zealand?

+50W 3D シンガポール In Singapore

シンガポール到着後。医者に直行。私の風邪は悪化して、咳は止まらず、喉が激痛。Dr Chook はアジアの医者らしく大量の薬を処方してくれた。おかげで風邪はよくなりつつある。が、Jasonが風邪をもらい、アラタの鼻水と咳は治まらず・・・。

ポール、ティンと再会。ティンの奥さんのステファニーにも会った。彼らには１才半のカイリーちゃんがいるが、来年２月には次が生まれる予定。グリニスと長女のケイちゃんともお昼に会った。再会ラッシュ。シンガポールでは食べなきゃいけないもの、やらなきゃいけないことがありすぎて、２日では足らない。時差ぼけでもうろうとしていたってのもあるが。フットマッサージに行って、Cocaのスティームボート、チャイナタウンでティーハウス、GoodwoodParkホテルのサイフォンコーヒー、ラクサ、ポピア、サテは食べたが肉骨茶を食べ忘れた。

２日目の夜、ポールとティンがイーストコーストのホーカーに連れていってくれた。アラタはシンガポール料理が気に入ったみたいですごい食欲だった。特に、フィッシュポリッジにはまった彼。お椀に手を突っ込んでむしゃむしゃ自分で食べていた。そして、ストローからジュースを飲むことを覚えた。豆乳もさとうきびジュースもごくごく！

Just after arriving in Singapore, I went to see a doctor. My cold didn't get better especially in the dry plane. It's in Singapore. The doctor gave me dozens of tablets and I've felt much better. But Jason got my cold now and Arata is still coughing and having runny nose.

We met Paul, Ting and Ting's wife, Steffanie. They have a 1.5 years old daughter Kylie and now expecting their second in February. We also met Glynis and her daughter Kei for lunch. There are so many dishes I must eat and so many things I must do in Singapore. 2 days are not enough especially when we are suffering from a jet lag. I could just manage to eat COCA steamboat, Chicken rice, Laksa and Popia. I missed Ha Kuh Teh.. We went to a chinese tea house in China town and had coffee at Goodwood Park Hotel, where coffee is prepared in front of us. No time to go shopping but I had a foot massage done.

On the second night, Paul and Ting took us to the hawker centre in East Coast. Arata must love Singaporean food. He ate a lot. He especially liked fish porridge and fed himself with hands! He also learnt to use a straw and had Soya Bean juice and Sugar Cane juice, both typical Singaporean!

+49W 6D 行ってきま～す Set off for New Zealand

今日、SQでニュージーランドへ出発します。私が2年ほど住んだことがあるシンガポールに行きと帰りにそれぞれ2泊。おいしいものを食べたらこのしつこい風邪が治るかな。（昨日も微熱と強烈な喉痛で会社のクリスマスパーティーを泣く泣くパスした私・・・。）オークランドで3泊した後、アラタのおばあちゃんの住むウエリントンへ飛びます。シンガポールまでは日本までより長い13時間。シンガポールからオークランドまでで、ロンドンから成田ぐらいの11時間。長い旅路、アラくん、大丈夫かな。（いや、私が大丈夫かしら。）

サンタと初のご対面。ひげ面のサンタが怖くて、怖くて、アラタは泣いてしまいました。ニュージーランドでは夏の装いのサンタに会えるかな。

We are setting off for New Zealand today. We are stopping over at Singapore, where I used to live, for 2 nights, and flying to Auckland. After staying in Auckland for 3 nights, finally we are flying to Wellington, where Arata's Nana is waiting. I hope my cold will get better after eating lots of nice Singaporean food. (Yesterday, I had a slight temperature and terrible sore throat, and I had to miss the company's Christmas party which I had been really looking forward to......) Flight time to Singapore is longer than to Japan. It's 13 hours. From Singapore to Auckland is another 11 hours. Hopefully, Arata will be ok. Well, I will probably have more difficult time on board. My cold will not getting any better there.

Arata met Father Christmas for the first time. He felt so scared with the long white beard. He could not stop crying. Is he going to see another Santa in summer clothes in New Zeland?

+49W 5D BBCの幼児向けチャンネル Cbeebies

CbeebiesというBBCの幼児向けチャンネルをいつもつけている。このチャンネルではいくつかの番組が一日3回ぐらいリピートで流れる。

アラタのお気に入りはテレタビースとバラモリー。テレタビースは宇宙人チックな人形がでてきて、数ある番組の中で一番年少者向け。どうも、アラタはお日様の中の本物の赤ちゃんの笑顔が好きみたいで、それが出てくるとじーつと見つめて微笑んでいる。バラモリーはバラモリーという村を舞台にした実際の人間による幼児向けドラマ（？）。これを彼が好きな理由は番組の初めと最後に、登場人物が出てきて手を振るから。アラタはテレビに向かって「ばいばーい。」

この前までは手拍子だけだったけど、アラタは音楽にあわせてダンスをすることを覚えた（昨日から）から、テーマソングが流れたり、トゥイニーズのミュージックタイムなんかになると、体をゆらゆらさせている。

Arata's favourite TV programmes are Teletubbies and Balamory. He loves Teletubies because of the real baby's face in the sun. Whenever the baby appears on TV, Arata stars at him and smiles. In the starting and ending of Balamory, the characters are waving. Arata always waves back. Arata has started to dance. Well, he only clapped his hands when he listened to music before. But since yesterday, he's started to wave his body along the music! So, programme like Tweenies takes Arata's attention as well!

+49W 2D 治らない・・・ Still not well

私は2ヶ月近く風邪が治らない。また月曜日の明け方から熱がでた。今も熱さましが切れると熱が上がる。昨日は急に下腹部痛になり、夜間緊急外来へ。（検尿の結果などから膀胱炎って言われたけど、そういう痛みではない。）完全に抵抗力がなくなっている。だからアラタも風邪が治らないのか。彼も一ヶ月近くひきっぱなし。鼻が詰まって、咳が出て、熟睡できないようだ。昨日は念のためGPへ連れて行った。長くひいているので、合併症が起きている心配もあるのでと抗生物質を処方された。バナナ味でおいしそうに飲んでくれているけど。

来年1月からの職場復帰。英国のFlexible Working Hoursという法律に基づいて私も週3日勤務を申請したらあっさりと通ってしまった。先日会社の同僚・元同僚に久しぶりに会った。妊娠中からいろいろ心配してくれていたEdも、私が産休中に転職してしまい、所属していた部署の顔ぶれも仕事内容もかなり変わった。クラス替えがあって新学年になる前の春休みのような心境だ。
Edとアラタがこの前ツーショットしてからもう半年も経つ・・・。

I have been having a cold for about 2 months now. On Monday, I had a temperature again. Still not well and I need occasional paracetamol to reduce temperature. What's worse, I went to the out-of-hour outpatient department last night. I had sudden abdominal pains. From what the doctor could see, I was diagnoses as cystitis, but I doubt it. My immune system is so weak at the moment... And probably because of me, Arata has been also having a cold for about a month. He can't sleep well from coughing or blocked nose. We took him to a GP yesterday and he is now taking a week course of antibiotics, to get rid of possible other infections. The medicine has banana flavour and Arata loves taking it!

I am going back to work next month. I've applied for the change of the working hours to 3 days a week only, following 'Flexible working hours regulation', and was approved. We met up with a couple of my (ex-)colleagues. Ed has changed her job during my leave. The system I was looking after has also been changed. My working environment will be much different and I am a bit nervous about it.
It was 6 months ago when Ed and Arata were taken a photo together...

+48W 4D お誕生日パーティー Birthday party

あきらくんとまいあちゃんの誕生日パーティーに Wapping の Turks Head へ。きょうはウエイトレスのシルバンもいて、気がつくとアラタは彼女に誘拐されて厨房にいたりと、相変わらずかわいがってもらった。アラタ以外の子どもたちはほぼ同じ年なので、一番ちびのアラタは、たたかれたり、おもちゃを取られたり、何回か泣かされていた。子どもの世界はシビアだから、小っちゃいとやられてしまう。というか、他の子ども同士もそんなものなのだけど、体力に大差がないからちょっとぐらい押されても倒れないとか、そんなところか。

We went to Akira and Maia's 2nd birthday part at Turks Head in Wapping. Sirvan was also working today and Arata often disappeared because she 'kidnapped' him to the kitchen. Arata is the only child who is not 2 years old and he cried lots. Well, he was pushed or taken something he was holding etc by older children. It's very obvious in children's world. If you are small, others take advantage of you and you have no chance to win?
