今日でアラタは1歳半になりました。

一年ほど前にみちこさんのご紹介で、英国での日本人女性の仕事から恋愛までの現実を本にしたいという、物書きの石井理恵子さんのインタビューを受けた。出来上がった本

『在英ワーキングウーマン事情』

は在英日本人女性15人の個性豊かなエピソードが満載。

私はどうもコンセプトを誤解していて、以前としさんのサイトに連載していたような「恋愛」話しばかりしたような気がする。でも、こうして活字で読むと、海外脱出して以来の生き方がパワフルで素敵にみえるから不思議。さすが、プロの理恵子さんの力量。らっきょが言っていた、「ちろさん、やる時はやるのねえ。」そんな印象が残る？（シャツの下からお腹が見えちゃってる写真がちょっと恥ずかしいけどね！）

Arata is one and a half years old today.

About a year ago, I was interviewed about the life in the U.K. by a Japanese writer, Rieko. She is a friend of Michiko and she was writing a book about Japanese women living in the U.K.

The book

has been released. There are 15 Japanese women in the book and each has a very unique and dynamic experience and life. When I read about my part, my life since I left Japan in the early 90's, in the form of a 'book', it looks not as bad as I thought.

1Y5M 卒ボトルできない Difficult to stop taking milk from bottles?

1才で卒乳して以来、ベッドタイムのミルク(フォーミュラ 1/3 ＋ ホールミルクの牛乳2/3）はボトルで飲んでいる。ナーサリーの大きいクラスではもうフォーミュラはもらえない。でも、就寝前はそれでいけるか疑問に思っていたところ、パリでフォーミュラが足らなくなった時に牛乳だけで寝付いてくれて一安心。

そして、もうすぐ弟も生まれることだし、どうにか就寝前でも、シップカップからミルクを飲めるようにならないか模索していた。ある雑誌によると、1歳半までに切り替えるとスムーズに行くらしい。慌てて真剣にやることにしたのだが…。

はスパウトを洗うのが難しく、ミルクには向かない。いくつか他のブランドのカップを買ってみたが6ヶ月＋用だとスパウトが硬すぎて気に入らない様子。

しばらく使っていなかった

Aventのカップ(3ヶ月＋用、200ML)

で上げてみたら飲んだので、たくさん(250～300ML)飲む就寝用に、6ヶ月＋（260ML)を購入。スパウトだけは柔らかい3ヶ月+のものに付け替えた。飲んでくれたのは初日だけ。その後数日ストライキ。結局ボトルに戻ってしまった。ミルクさえ飲んでくれれば、ボトルのままでもいいけれど、また忘れた頃に試してみるか…。

At nursery's little learner's class, they only give children whole milk. At bed time, Arata takes mixture of 1/3 formula and 2/3 whole milk. I was not sure if he took milk only before going to bed but when we ran out of formula in Paris, he took just milk, to our relief.

I'm trying to switch from bottles to sipper cups when feeding him at bed time. But it's not easy.... The best idea coming up so far has been to attach a softer spout (3 months +) to a bigger cup (6 months +). We bought

Avent sipper cup for 6 months + (200ML)

and replaced the spout with a 3 months +.

Arata happily took milk from the cup on the first day. But that's it. He was on strike for a couple of days after and now he is only using a bottle again... Well, probably it's not a big deal as long as he takes milk? I may try again in a couple of weeks time.

1Y5M 大人の椅子でパクパク Big appetite in a big chair

パリ以来、ハイチェアがないカフェなどでは普通の椅子に座って食べるようになった。首から上だけちょこんとテーブルから出ているというのはなんとも不憫なのだが、本人は気にしていない様子。椅子が低すぎて、取り分け用にもらったお皿の中身がよく見えない最悪の状態でも、一生懸命食べている。

そして、大人の椅子に２回も座るはめになった昨日のアラタの食欲はすごかった。ランチは、カフェで、ミートソースのかかったそれは大きなジャケットポテトを一人前、平らげてしまった。アラタ用にもらった小さいスプーンを途中で床に投げたので、もうごちそうさまかと思ったら、私の使っていた大きいスプーンを奪って食べ続けたってわけだ。夜は、チャイニーズでヌードルも餃子もパクパク。ランチにあれだけ食べたからと、侮っていたのは私達。２人分しか注文しなかったので、ほとんど取られてしまった。これだけ活動的だとそれだけエネルギーも要るってことかしら。

Since Paris, Arata has sometimes sat in a normal chair at cafe or restaurant if we can't get a high chair. I always feel a bit sorry to see that only Arata's head is above the table. But he doesn't seem to mind it. Even if he can't see what's inside in the bowl in front of, or above?, his eyes, he eats very well.

Arata had to use a normal chair twice yesterday. And he ate surprisingly a lot! At lunch, he nearly finished a big Jacket potato with bolognase source. At one stage, he threw away the small spoon he had been eating with. We thought he finished eating. But he took my spoon and kept eating. For dinner, we thought he wouldn't eat much because he had a big lunch. We only ordered 2 meals for two of us. But Arata ate a lot, again, his favourite Chinese! Arata is so active now and I reckon he needs lots more energy.

1Y5M ウォータールー近辺 Around Waterloo

天気よし。ロンドンまで電車に乗って、ウォータールーをぶらぶらしに行った。しばらく行かない間に、ウォータールー周辺のテムズ沿いはちょっと違っていた。路上パフォーマンスが氾濫して、（チェーン店ばかりだけれど）レストランやカフェやが増えている。ロンドンアイの真下にはごろ寝できる芝生と、プレイグラウンドまであることは、多分以前は気がつかなかったのだろう。

アラタが昼寝してくれることを、そしてその間にゆっくりコーヒーでも飲むことを、願って川沿いを少し散歩したが、刺激的な光景に興奮して全くだめ。仕方なく、芝生に座って屋台のアイスクリームを食べてから、水族館へ。魚を指さしたりもしていたけれど、大きな水槽の中を泳いでいる魚やらサメやらをちょっと怖がっていた。もう少し大きくなってからの方が面白いのかな。私は楽しかったけどね。

結局昼寝を全くしませんでした。

Very nice day. We went to London to wander around Waterloo. It's changed a lot since I went there last time. There are lots of street performers and more eating places along the river Thames. I didn't realise before that there is a park with a play ground just under the London Eye.

We walked along the river hoping that Arata would fall asleep, and we could have a coffee peacefully. But the area was too exciting for him. We changed our plan and sat on the lawn with ice cream instead. Then we went to the London Aquarium. Arata was pointing fish with his eyes wide open, but he was also a bit frightened by big fish or sharks in the huge tanks. Probably a little bit older children can appreciate it more. I enjoyed it!

And... Arata didn't have a nap at all.

1Y5M うちの猿 Our little monkey

とにかくいろいろな所に登るからこっちはハラハラ。洗面台の上に登った後は、そこで蛇口をひねったりして遊んでいたので、発見された時はズボンがびしょびしょ。この間はアラタを寝かせようとして、うっかり私がうとうとしていたら、「ママ、ママ…。」はっと気がつくと、アラタは私の胸の高さほどもあるたんすの上にちょこんと座っていた。あー、怖い。

ここ数週間でかなり登るのが得意になった。ちょっと前までは、私が台所で使う踏み台をリビングルームに持ってきては、あの狭い台の上に慎重に登って立ち上がり、得意そうな顔をしていた。ナーサリーで保母さんに話したら、ナーサリーでもいろいろなところに登ろうとして、注意されているらしい。サルだ！

Jasonもこのぐらいの時は木登りが得意だったらしく、彼の弟のAdrianが外壁に立てかけてあったはしごを伝わって屋根に登ってしまったのもちょうど１歳半ぐらいのことだったそうだ。母によると、私の弟はそんなことはしなかったらしいので、ラムニー家の遺伝子に間違いなし。落ちて怪我をしないか心配。（二枚目の写真はキッチンでいたずらするアラタ。しゃもじなどでお鍋を叩いて演奏することもしばしば。）

Arata likes climbing. When he climbed onto the washing basin, he then turned on and off the tap and got himself wet. When I was sleeping against my intentions, I was trying to make Arata have a nap but I fell asleep instead, Arata climbed up to the chest of drawers. I was so shocked to find him up there when I heard him calling me and opened my eyes! It is more than 1 meter high.

I talked to one of the carers at nursery about his climbing habit. She said Arata likes climbing at nursery as well and they often tell him off.

Jason also liked climbing trees when he was child. And his brother Adrian once climbed up to the roof through a ladder when he was about 1 and a half years old. My mum told me that my brother was never so wild. It must be the gene from Jason's side!　(The second photo. Just after Arata has taken out all sorts of pans and pots etc in the kitchen. He often make music banging on them with ladles.)

26W0D いつの間にか「妊娠7ヶ月」

気がついたら既に巷で言う「妊娠7ヶ月」だ。正確には、7ヶ月と1週。本当に、妊娠を感じる暇がない。アラタの時は、あら、今週は赤ちゃんはXXセンチになった、なんて毎週チェックを欠かさなかった。今回はといえば、今何週なのかも忘れがち。たぶん人生最後の妊娠だから、十分に楽しまなきゃとは思うのだけど、思うだけ。アラタの面倒やらでそれどころではないわ。

1Y5M また中耳炎 Ear infection again...

不安的中。アラタの具合がよくない。昨日は食欲がなくミルクも飲まずに寝た。今朝は元気に起きたと思ったが、遊びもせずにぼーっとしていて、１時間もしないうちにまた寝てしまった。これは尋常ではない。GPに連れて行くと、耳の中がかなり赤く腫れているらしい。土曜日の夜中、「いたい、いたい」と耳から頭を触りながら泣き続けていたから予測はしていたが…。夕方、もらってきた抗生物質(erythromycin)を飲ませると、そのままご飯も食べずに寝た。39度近い熱が出てきたので、Calpolを上げてみたが。Jasonがいないのにいやだなあ。明日は会社を休まないといけないかもしれない。(写真は昨日。バルコニーで朝食…と思ったが暑すぎてすぐに退散。)

Arata is not feeling well at all. He went to bed without eating dinner last night. He looked ok this morning, but he didn't play much. Within an hour, he started to look drowsy and went back to bed... It's totally unusual. I made an urgent GP appointment. The GP who checked Arata's ears said, "They are very red." We are sort of expecting this as Arata woke up and kept touching the right side of his head crying 'Itai itai.... (painful!)' 2 nights ago. I gave him a doze of prescribed antibiotics, Erythromycin, as soon as we came home. Then Arata insisted to go to bed, without dinner again. Soon, he developed a temperature. I could manage to give him some Calpol when he briefly woke up. Hopefully, nothing serious will happen while Jason is away.... I will probably need to take a day off from work tomorrow. (The photo was us having breakfast on our balcony yesterday. It was too hot and we went back inside soon after.)

1Y5M ウンチ！ Poo!

昨日初めて、ウンチをした直後に「ウンチ！」と叫んだ。すばらしい進歩。最近は、朝起きると、自分からナピーチェンジングマットを床にひいて横になり、オムツを替えて！という体勢をとる。ポティトレーニングは、まずはした「後」を認識するところかららしいので、こうやって徐々に始まっていくのだろう。

今日は暑すぎる。外は25度ぐらいなのだろうけど、冷房のない最上階は30度近いのではないだろうか。妊婦には厳しい。アラタも私も何回もシャワーを浴びて体温を下げた。リビングルームにはござを敷いて、アラタはオムツ一丁。今日からJasonが出張でしばらくいない。アラタが産まれてから初めて家を空けるのに、アラタは昨晩から具合があまりよくなくちょっと不安。

It was yesterday when Arata first announced "Unchi!", meaning, "I've done poo!" after he did. He has also started to put the nappy changing mat on the floor and lies down on it when he wakes up in the morning, asking us to change his nappies. It is the first step that children realise he has done poo or pee, so in this way, gradually he can start the potty training.

It was really hot today. It was about 25C outside, but on the top floor without air conditioning, it must have been about 30C in our flat. It's especially terrible for a pregnant woman like me! Arata and I took shower twice, apart from the one before going to bed. I put straw mats in our lounge and Arata was only wearing a nappy. Jason is on business for a couple of days from today but Arata hasn't been well since last night. I'm a bit nervous as it's the first time Jason is away during nights after Arata was born.

1Y5M 飛行機 Aeroplane

そろそろ1歳半になるアラタのボキャブラリー。動物は相変わらず全部「ワンワン」で乗り物は全て「でんしゃ！」Jasonによると車は区別して「カー」と言い出したようだが、何を見ても電車って言ってる姿しか私は目撃していない。ただ、飛行機は「いこうき！」と（H抜き）で呼んでいる。まあ、鳥が（少し遠くを）飛んでいるのを見ても「いこうき！」なのだが…。きょうもHorsell Commonで飛行機が上空を通過するたびに「いこうき！」と興奮していた。

得意な日本語の言葉は、「痛い」と「熱い」で、「いたーい」といいながら泣く。日本語でも英語でも混乱する単語があるのが興味深い。「元気？」って聞くと「電気」を指さすし、「Mouse（ねずみ）」と言ったら「口（Mouth)」を指さした。（ちなみに、日本語では両方「マウス」になっちゃうけど、Jasonが絵本を読んであげているので、正しい英語、SとTHの音は別。）

Arata's recent vocabularies. He still calls most of the animals, 'Wan-wan' It's a Japanese children's word for a 'dog'. All cars and trains are 'Densha'. Japanese word for 'trains'. According to Jason, Arata can now differentiate a 'car' from trains but I've never heard Arata saying 'car' yet. Arata has recently learnt a Japanese word for 'aeroplane'. It's 'Hikouki' He pronounces it without the first 'H'. Arata even calls birds flying in a distance "(H)ikouki!"

His favourite Japanese words are 'Itai' (painful) and 'Atsui' (hot). It's interesting that he gets confused with some words. When we ask him 'Genki?' (how are you?} he points at 'Denki' (light}. When Jason read a book and said 'Mouse', Arata pointed his mouth!

1Y5M クマリ Kumari

産休中に私の代わりに働いていたクマリ。ワーキングホリデービザで在英していたので、産休明け後もずっと働いていてほしいからと会社が労働許可証を申請するはずだったのがズッコケたため、急遽スリランカに帰ることになった。土曜日に家族でヒースローまで見送りに行った。

クマリは子供好き。産休中もたまにアラタを連れて会社を訪問すると、アラタはクマリにはすぐになついていた。クマリはいつも「アラタのおかげで私はこの仕事をゲットできたのよ」と言う。しばらく会えないのは寂しいけれど、勉強するために９月に戻ってくる予定。空港でクマリに熊のプーさんのぬいぐるみをプレゼントされると、アラタは、「プー！」キャラクターの中で彼が唯一認識できるのは熊のプーなのだ。ここ数日、プーにスプーンでフィードしようとしたり、靴を履かせようとしたり、すっかりお気に入り。ありがとう、クマリ！

Kumari flew back to Sri Lanka on Saturday. She was at work during my maternity leave and kept working until our company tried and decided, against our wills, not to get a work permit for her. It was yesterday that her working holiday visa expired. We went to Heathrow to see her off.

Kumari likes children. When I took Arata to work during maternity leave, Arata got used to her immediately. Kumari always says, "Because of Arata, I got this job!" It will be at least 3 months before she comes back to the U.K. to attend a university course. I really hope her application for the place at university will be approved. Kumari gave Arata a nice Winnie the Pooh at the airport. Arata immediately reacted by saying, 'Pooh!' Winnie the Pooh is the only character Arata can recognise at the moment. He seems to like the doll lots. Arata's tried to feed him or put shoes on him since! Thank you for the nice present, Kumari!

1Y5M イ～ングラ～ンド Eeeenglaaaand

ワールドカップイングランド初戦。午前中にタウンセンターに行くと、老若男女を問わず、驚くほど多くの人がイングランドシャツを着ている。さっそくアラタにも「オフィシャル」のユニフォーム上下（靴下つき）を13ポンド（約2600円）で購入。私もJasonもイングリッシュではないけれど、英国籍ももつアラタがこの国で代表になるとしたら、イングランド。イングランドシャツを着せたら可愛いかったけれど、なんとなくオールブラックスのジャージーの方が似合う気がするなあ。

午後はれいこさんのうちのBBQ。ハナちゃんと、れいこさんの娘のあすかちゃんと記念撮影。あすかちゃんとアラタの年の差ってJasonと私ぐらい。子供の時の年の差って強烈よね～。

The first England match at World Cup. We saw so many people in England shirt at Woking town centre this morning and I bought 'official' England uniform set (including shorts and socks) for Arata. It was only 13 pounds. Neither Jason nor I am English but if Arata, who has a British passport as well, becomes an international in this country, it will be England. The shirt suits him well but I think All Blacks shirt suits him better.

We went to BBQ at Reiko's. We took a photo of Arata with her daughter Asuka and, Yo's daughter, Hanna.

24W2D 産婦人科医アポ

St Peter's Hospital で産婦人科医と２回目のアポイントメント。計画帝王切開にするか自然分娩を試みるかは36週ぐらいまでに決めればいいということで、計画帝王切開と帝王切開後の自然分娩に関するブックレットをもらった。検尿の結果、血尿もないので、今回は腎臓機能がどうのこうのという理由で医者が何かを言ってくることはなさそう。前回は、検診のたびに血尿で、ほとんど毎回血液検査まで受けたから、大事を取ってということで、１週間しか遅れていなかったのに分娩誘発させられたわけだから。

計画帝王切開だと39週に予定することになるらしい。帝王切開後に3/4の人が自然分娩を選び、さらにその中の3/4の人が緊急帝王切開にならずに出産するそうだ。前回8CMまで子宮口が開いていたけど緊急帝王切開になった話をすると、医者は、「それはもったいなかったですね。あなたにはあまり問題なさそうだし、自然分娩でもいけると思う。年齢は関係ないよ。」と言われた。母も含め、予定日より遅れがちな遺伝？がありそうなので、39週で無理やり産むよりは、陣痛が起きるのを待った方がいいかなあというのが、今のところの私の考え。また１週間予定日より遅れると仮定すると、赤ちゃんが出てきたい時期より2週間も早く出すのはやっぱりかわいそうかなと思う。なるべくお腹の中で大きくなってから世の中に出てきた方がいいだろう。まあ、Jasonの意見も聞いてみるけど。

1Y5M キス Kiss

モニカに妹が生まれたので、お祝いもかねてゴーガのところに遊びに行った。二コルちゃんはちょうど2週間。新生児ってこんなに軽かったっけ。アラタの弟ももうすぐ誕生するのに実感がわかない。半年会わないうちにモニカはおしとやかな女の子になっていて、アラタの乱暴ぶりが目立った…。「モニカにキスは？」と言うと、（1ヶ月しか違わないのに、アラタより4キロぐらい重い）ふた周りぐらい大きいモニカに、爪先立ちしてキスをしたのが可愛かった。この間は、床に座り込んでいたトーマのあごを持ち上げて、首を少しかしげて接吻！大人顔負けのキスぶりにいつも大うけ。アラタ、なかなかやるなあ。

We visited Goga's. Monika now has a little sister, Nicole, who was born 2 weeks ago. She is so light! I will have another baby soon but I can't remember how tiny new born babies are now. Monika has grown into a quiet and gentle little girl. Arata is, on the contrary, very naughty... When I asked Arata to kiss Monika, he tip toed, as Monika is much bigger than Arata, and kissed her! Arata did a 'romantic' kiss to Thoma last week as well, he held up Thoma's chin a bit, because Thoma was sitting on the floor, and tilted the head a bit to kiss him. Whenever Arata kisses someone, we are amazed how well he knows what he is doing!
