7Y7M 5Y9M ナニア退園 Leaving Nania

タカラ、ナニア幼稚園を退園。年長さん１０人みんな一緒に卒園させてあげたかったけどしょうがない。

Takara's last day at Nania. I wanted him to graduate from Nania with other 9 children, but SCIPS Year 1 is starting soon....

仲良しのゆうすけくんは、タカラがいなくなるのが寂しくて、何度も「大好き」したりしたそうで、てるてるぼうずをたくさん作って全部一緒にくっつけて、プレゼントしてくれた。こんな風に子供の気持ちが現れる。

One of his best friends, Yusuke, must have felt very sad, he cuddled Takara many times, and made these dolls for him. There are 5 paper made dolls tied together. Junko said children's feelings and emotions often show up this way.

２０日のお別れ会では、ナニアの日常の遊びの様子も見れてとてもよかった。

On 20th, I attended Takara's leaving party. It was my first time to see how children at Nania play for nearly one hour, which was very interesting.

自然のオブジェクトのおもちゃをで想像力を使いながら遊んでいた。クラス中の木製の椅子を並べて飛行機を作っても怒られない。

They only have natural objects as toys. But they used their imagination and creativity to play with them. Boys put all the chairs together to make a big air plane, but nobody told them off, of course.

お別れする子供とは、英語クラスも日本語クラスも一人一人が「大好き」をしてくれる。

The child leaving can get cuddles from everybody.

こんな風に女の子二人に抱きしめられるタカラ。幼稚園では同じ男の子を好きになるのがはやりなのかなあ、年長さんの女の子のお母さん３人から告白（私にね）！モテ期のタカラ。

It must be a trend to fancy the same boy at this age? 3 mothers out of 5 big girls have told me that their daughters liked Takara. 

日本人学校の体験に行きそびれたアラタを受け入れてくれたため、アラタも３週間近く通った。

Arata, who couldn't go to Japanese School, was also at Nania for 3 weeks. Thank you very much, Junko.

 

アラタカラ合わせて４年近くお世話になった。いい幼稚園だったなーと、感慨深い。

All together, Aratakara went to Nania for nearly 4 years. It was such a good kindergarten.... 

「木登りの上手なオリバー君」、今が人生で一番日本語が流暢なのかなあと思うと複雑な気持ち。寂しい。

Takara was known as 'the boy who is good at climbing up trees'. I feel emotional to think this is his best time of his Japanese fluency in his life.

7Y6M 5Y8M テニスと体操 Tennis and gymnastics

人気のゴー先生は一杯なので、とりあえずCRCでグループテニスレッスンを始めたアラタ。可も無く不可もないらしい。順番までの待ち時間が長いとか、女が多すぎとかの文句だし、そのうちもっと楽しくなるだろう、自分でやりたいって言ったんだから。

タカラはUSM近くの体操クラスのトライアルに行ってみた。初回だから全く参加せず見ていただけらしいが、次も行くというのでこちらも気に入ったかな。 やっとペナンで見つけた体操クラス、続けてほしいわ。

ペナンは小さい街なので、何に関しても選択肢が少ないが、興味があって、クラスさえあれば料金は安いので色々やってみるにはいい。

Arata has started to join group tennis lessons at CRC. Not too good not too bad, according to him. But he will start to like it soon, as he has wanted to do it. Only the things which demortibate him were, 'too many children and long waiting time to his turn' or 'too many girls and not many boys'.....

Takara went to a trial at gymnastics class near USM. Jason told me that Takara was only watching and not participating but he wants to go again, which means he liked it.

Penang is not big and we have not many choices on everything. But once boys want to try something, and luckily if we find a class, it's very cheap, and we don't usually hesitate to send them to a class. 

7Y6M 5Y9M 体験入学入学却下 Arata was refused to go to Japanese School

ペナン日本人学校にアラタの体験入学を拒否されました。

どうにかならないか色々探って、メールも何度もやりとりして、今日は直接お会いしに行きました。

スクールバスに乗れないある家族がお願いしているドライバーさんがいるというので、事前に根回しすると週４日は迎えに行けるらしい。もう１日は私が行くとして仕事にも支障なく、オッケーだろうと思ったのだけど、まさかの却下。在校児と体験入学児に対する送迎の決まりは一緒だということだったのに、これはだめだと言い出した。セキュリティが問題なら、元々お願いしようとしていたほかの子供の保護者でも、このドライバーさんでも、とっくにクリアしているわけだ。なぜ？

結局何がだめで何がよいかよくわからなかった。両親しか駄目という決まりには元々無理があるし、実際は他人にお願いしている人もいる。その範囲内でどうにかしようと私もやってみた。初めに教頭先生が発した「どうにかなりませんか」という質問に対してこれ以上の回答は望めない。あれは「仕事を辞められませんか」という意味だったのか。私が迎えに行ける週２日だけ２週間通わせることも却下。申し訳ないが、勉強したいと言っている１人の小学生をどうにか受け入れてあげようという気持ちは伝わってこなかった。

私立とは言え、日本政府から資金援助を受けている義務教育の一環としての学校で、つまり、私達の税金が使われている教育施設で、こんな小さな理由（両親が迎えに行けないからという）で、教育者が子供から教育のチャンスを奪うとはさすがに思わなかったし、子供の観点からみたら、非常に不公平な扱い。驚くと同時に非常にがっかりした。

来学期はバスの定員を増やすので、是非お越しくださいと２度いわれたので、「それでもまた満席になったら同じですよね」と、２度答えた。

アラタは今日も「黄色いバケツ」を読んでいる。補習校で１学期の漢字は一通りやった。でも、日本人学校の授業についていく為に、音読だけはコツコツやりなさいと言ったから、毎日１ページ読んでいる。 

I went to talk to the principle and vice principle of Japanese school to ask to reconsider my son's application of 3-week trial. (We were initially accepted but rejected as the school bus is full and my friends are not allowed to pick up Arata... I've started to work and I can't do it.)

Their only suggestion is either me or Jason to take some break from work and go to pick him up.

I'd learnt there is a family who uses a driver to send their kids, I contacted him to confirm he could do it for Arata as well, so I brought it up during the meeting.

I was quite shocked to be told the school also rejected this idea, even though this driver is already known to the school. I can't see any difference in security between school bus drivers and him.

I've sent them an email telling them the school is a part of compulsory education, and funded by the Japanese government, which means they use our tax. How can they treat children so unfairly, and take off an opportunity to learn?

The school also didn't seem to be sincere and trying to find out the solution together with me. They never suggested anything more than me or Jason take holiday from work, and all my ideas were simply rejected, sometimes without any clear reasons. They looked as if they forgot they were educators, but behaved like immigration officers in a communist country. I never felt they understood Arata's feeling and tried to give him a chance.

So disappointed by them. And I feel pity on Arata as his other friends can go but not him because his parents are both working.

7Y6M 5Y9M SCIPS運動会 SCIPS Sports day

SCIPSの運動会。日本の運動会とは違って平日の授業時間内にやる。6種目をクラス毎にサーキットトレーニングのように回ったり、リレーしたり。

会場ではちょっとしたダンスミュージックも流れてお祭り気分。担任の先生もYMCAの歌に合わせて踊っています。

この緩さ、いいね～。

SCIPS sports day.  Each class hopped one game after another, like a circuit training. Later they did some running races.

Interestingly, they were playing dance music and some kids, as well as teachers, sang and danced along. It's like a festival!

Very different from school sports day in Japan.
