Singapore

Went to Singapore over the weekend. Until a couple of years ago, I felt "I am going back to Singapore" but this time I felt I was a completely stranger. No wonder it's been 15 years since I left there and Singapore has changed rapidly. If I have a chance to live there again, I will have lots of places I have to explore.

We saw Paul for lunch at Vivo city, which is a new shopping mall for me. It happens to be just in front of Sentosa, we decided to spend the afternoon on the island as boys wanted to get on the monorail and ropeway. Last time, there was no tube station, no artificial beaches, no monorail..... The island has been developed into a touristic place. A bit sad as I used to come to one of the few spots on the island, Sentosa Resort hotel, to relax to have a coffee or a drink at their quiet lounge.

We then met my ex-colleague, Mindy. She took us to one of the steamboat restaurants on Beach Road. I was quite surprised to see that the area from Bugis station to a part of Beach Road was filled with steamboat restaurants. Bugis used to be a very quiet place with only a couple of sleazy bars.

On Saturday, we went to the Singapore zoo. I prefer their night safari but of course our boys can not be up so late. I was worried that the zoo would be too hot for me. But it turned out to be quite well designed zoo with lots of shades and huts to avoid sun.

In the evening, we visited Azusa and her family. They have just moved to Singapore. Amelie and Arata spent together lots when they were just a few months old in London. Of course they don't remember that but they started to play together immediately.

Ting took us to a Sarawak Laksa hawker in Bedok for Sunday lunch. I like Sarawak laksa best among other laksas like Singapore laksa (is also my favourite) and Penang laksa. And as a Sarawakian Ting recommends the place, it was really nice. I want to go back again. Aratakara and Ting's children Kylie and Nicolas also played together very well. They went to the swimming pool at Ting's condo together.

3 days wasn't enough. I missed a couple of friends I wanted to see and I also didn't have enough time to eat all the food I wanted. We have to go back to Singapore again. (This is the blog I posted 3 years ago when we stopped over in Singapore. )
