1Y1M 恭喜発財 Gong Xi Fa Cai!

チャイニーズニューイヤーのお祭りを見に、チャイナタウン＆トラファルガースクエアに行った。今年のロンドンのチャイナタウンはアジア以外で一番大きいお祭り。チャイニーズびいきの私が行かないわけにはいかない。が、寒くてランチだけ食べて帰ってきた。今日のロンドンの気温は6度。

昨日2ヶ月ぶりにアラタの体重を量りに行った。2ヶ月前（8.5Kg）とほぼ同じ、8.7Kg、身長は76CM。もっと食べさせろって言われたが、もともとスリムな上、最近は歩き回ってエネルギーを使っているし、Jasonが子どもの頃やせていたから遺伝でしょう。ブロイラーのように育てろというのだろうか。とはいえ、きちんと食べさせていないように聞こえて困ってしまった。

We went to Chinatown and Trafalgar Square to see the Chinese New Year festival. This year, London has the biggest celebration outside of Asia so as a big Chinese fan, I had to go and have a look! But it was too cold. We came home after having lunch. It was 6°C in London this afternoon. I felt much colder.

Arata weighed 8.7Kg yesterday. It was 8.5Kg 2 months ago so he hasn't gained much. The health visitor told me to feed him more! Well, Arata has been always slim. In addition, he has started to move around all the time in the last couple of weeks. So, isn't it normal he hasn't gained much weight...?

5W5D もしや

来週の月曜日から会社に行かなければならない。1年以上も仕事をしていなかったし、産休中に担当していたシステムもSAPに移行しつつある。仲のよかったEdもKatyも辞めた。なんとなく、クラス替えのある新学期の前の休みが終わる時、春休み、の感覚。行きたくないなあって思ってしまう。

本当に妊娠していたらまたすぐに産休取れるのにと考えながらダイアリーを再チェック。生理になりそうな痛さがたまにあるのであまり気にしていなかったのだけれども、実はもう2週間近く遅れている。そういえば、明けがたおなかが空くとちょっと気持ち悪いし、気がつくと、ここ数日梅干入りお茶ばかり飲んでいる。もしやと、去年のブログを読み返してみると6W5Dでプレグナンシーテストをしていた。あと一週間ちょっとで同じ時期になる。そして、その前にはやはり生理痛のような痛みが時々あったと書いてある。ビンゴのような気がした。Jasonも90％妊娠したんじゃないかと言っている。まあ、来週末まで待とう。

1Y1M 卒乳 Weaning

今年初めに卒乳。以前から、偏頭痛の薬を飲むために母乳を止めなきゃと思いながら、なかなかできなかった。少しずつ減らしてはいたのだけれども、お昼寝する時におっぱいを上げるとパタンと寝てくれるのは便利だし、なんと言っても、止めてしまうとういう事実が寂しかったのかな。

飛行機の離着陸時の気圧の変化で赤ちゃんが泣かないためには、おっぱいを上げるのが常套手段。だから、ニュージーランドへの里帰り前にも止められなかった。

ニュージーランドに着いてからは、長引く風邪のせいか母乳の出が悪くなった。それでも時差ぼけで夜中に起きるとあげたり、数日して溜まると飲ませたりしていた。ところが、今年に入ったある日、夜中に泣き叫びながら起きたアラタは私のおっぱいを拒否。これが最後の試み。記憶装置がない１歳児のアラタは、かつてママのおっぱいを飲んでいたってこと、もう忘れてしまっているのかなぁ。

さて、ナーサリーで2時間過ごしたアラタはそのほとんどを泣いて過ごした様子。この前も今日も、ずっとドアの方を見ているのかなあ、私が迎えに行ってドアのガラスの窓からのぞくとすぐに怒って泣いているアラタと目があう。ただ、アラタ担当の保母さんのキャリーにべったりだったそうで、彼女に少し慣れてきたようだ。写真は久々に会ったゆうきお兄ちゃんと。

Arata has weaned since the beginning of this year. I'd wanted to stop breastfeeding for a long time, to take medicine for my terrible migraine. But breastfeeding is so convenient, they can fall asleep easily when being fed, for example. In fact, the main reason I couldn't stop was because I felt myself sad....

I was thinking about stopping before going back to work. But after our holiday as I wanted to bereastfeed Arata while taking off and landing, to prevent him from feeling the changes of air pressure.

After arriving in New Zealand, I stopped producing much milk. Probably because of prolonged cold. Yet I gave him my breast from time to time, when Arata woke up crying in the middle of night or when my breast became sore from full of milk. And in one night, Arata woke up crying and I offered my breast as usual. But Arata refused my offer!!! It was the last attempt. One year old babies are said to have no long memories. Probably Arata does not even remember he used to be breastfed...

Arata had another settle-in session at nursery this afternoon. I was told he was crying most of the time. When I went back to pick him up, as soon as he found me, which was really quick because he had been looking at the direction of the door where I'd disappeared, he was really angry and crying...

1Y0M MMR

アラタは2日ほど前から再び風邪。咳と鼻水が出ていて、もしかしたら喉も痛いのかも。でも熱がなければMMR(はしか、おたふく、風疹)はを受けても問題ないらしい。私がアラタを羽交い絞めにしている間に、左足の太ももにブスッ！次の予防接種は今までやった予防接種の2回目を3歳半で受ける。

Arata has a cold again. Runny nose and coughing. Probably he has a sore throat as well. But if the child does not have temperature, they can take MMR, and Arata had it today.

IY0M いたずら坊主 So naughty!

来週から会社に行くのでChrist教会のプレイグループ参加も最後。いくつか試した中でこのプレイグループが一番よかったからちょっと残念。今日は、気がつくと、同月齢のジャマと遊んでいた。あ、ジャマが食べていたビスケットをいつの間にアラタが食べている・・・。(写真１)

ランチでは、かわいくハイチェアに並んで座っていたルークの指を噛んで泣かせた。アラタが噛もうと口をあけた瞬間が写真2。

午後はナーサリーのお試し2日目。今日は1.5時間。やっぱりアラタはばいばいの意味がわかってなかったな。保母さんに渡すと、「ママ！」という感じで身を乗り出してきて、うわ～とおお泣き。それでも私がばいば～いと言って手を振ると顔をくしゃくしゃにしながら手を振っていた。迎えに行った時も泣いていて、保母さんを独り占め。

Today is the last time to attend the play group at Christ church. I will be at work on Wednesday from next week. This is the most favourite group and I feel a little bit sad. Arata was playing with Jama, who is about the same age, when I caught him eating the biscuit Jama had been eating just before... (Photo 1)

At lunch, when Luke and Arata were sitting side by side in high chairs, Arata bit Luke's finger! Of course, Luke cried. Arata's mouth was wide open just before he did bite Luke. (Photo 2)

In the afternoon, Arata had the second nursery settle-in session for 1.5 hours. When I passed him to a carer, he tried to come back to me and started to cry. When he realised he could not get me, he screamed. But when I waved my hand saying, 'Bye bye!' he still waved back. His bye-bye must be automatic!! Arata was being looked after by his main carer Carrie when I went to pick him up because he was crying again.

1Y0M 移行対象 Transitional object

アラタはミルクを飲みながら自分の髪の毛をなでるのが好き。お昼ねをする時にも髪の毛をなでなでしながら、「ねんねんねん」とつぶやく。チャイルドサイコセラピストでもあるJasonママによると、アラタにとって自分の髪の毛が「移行対象」なのでは。

絶対的に依存しているお母さんが自分とは別の人間だということを理解し、やがて自立していくまでの間に、お母さんを思い出させて安心感を与えるものが、「移行対象」と心理学で呼ばれる。赤ちゃんにとっては、自分以外の初めての「所有物」で、自分以外に対象が向かう自立のめばえなんだそうだ。

今のところ、ライナスの毛布のように、これがないとだめ！というものはアラタにはないが、もし本当に、彼にとって自分の髪の毛が「移行対象」だったら、切ってしまったらどうなるのかしら？？

さて、今日はナーサリーのお試し初日。お母さんがそっと消えるのではなく、ばいばいをして、お母さんは行っちゃうけれど、後で迎えに来るということを教えるのだそうだ。ばいば～いと手を振って別れたが、アラタはへっちゃらな様子。果たしてばいばいの本当の意味がわかっているのか、アラタ？1時間後に戻ってみて様子を聞くと、「彼はぜーんぜん、大丈夫だったわ。」私にとってもアラタ抜きの楽しい1時間だったわ。写真は時差ぼけアラタ。

Arata likes stroking his hair when he is feeding milk. When he tries to have a nap, he also touches his hair saying, 'Nenn Nenn Nenn....' Jason's mum, who is a child psychotherapist, thinks his hair may be a 'transitional object' for Arata.

At first, babies rely on mothers 100%. But gradually, they start to learn mothers and themselves are two different objects, in the process of finding their independence. During this period, children often have special objects such as a toy or blanket which gives them comfort.

Arata hasn't got a toy he must have when going to bed yet. But if his hair is a transitional object for him, what will happen when he has his hair cut?

This afternoon, Arata had his first settle-in session at nursery. We are asked to say 'bye bye' to let children know we are leaving but coming back later for them. Arata and I waved each other saying, 'Bye bye.' He seemed to have no problem. Does he really know the meaning of bye-bye?? Anyway, one hour later when I went back, a carer told me, 'he was absolutely fine.' Well, I also had a good time without small one!

1Y0M やっぱりシンガポール I still love you, Singapore!

昨日の朝5時、ヒースローに到着。夜行便はやっぱりよい。13時間半のフライトの9時間を全員が爆睡できたからだ。ミニキャブの迎えで6時前には家に到着。ところが、鍵が開かない・・・。普段使わないセキュリティロックを施錠せず、持たずに、旅行に出発。留守中に大家さんが来た時に閉めて行ってしまったってわけだ。結局不動産屋さんが開く9時まで、近所のホリデーインホテルで、高い朝食を食べながら待つはめに・・・。疲れた。

シンガポールに住んでいたのは10年も前のこと。今回はNZからのフライトを変更して予定より長く滞在。どう考えても友達との再会、フットマッサージ、そしておいしいものを食べまくるには2泊では時間が足らないと、行きのストップオーバーで実感したから。

到着当日は、丁度マレーシアに戻っていたトニーがシンガで乗り換える時間にぴったりとあって空港で再会。元同僚のミンディとも会ったし、グリニス家族とも食事に行けた。彼らの5歳の娘ケイちゃんは一生懸命アラタのお世話をしてくれていて、かわいかった。チャイニーズ系の友達はホスピタリティに溢れているから、毎晩どこかに連れ出してごちそうしてくれる。もちろん、ティン、ポールにも毎日のように会った。

この10年の間に、冷房つきのフードコートが増え、コーヒーバーが乱立。コンデンスミルクの入っている地元のコーヒー以外にも、若者たちはスタバでラテを飲む。フットマッサージのお店が雨後の竹の子状態。日本人観光客狙いに違いない。ホテルやショッピングモールが増え、地下鉄も増線。シティへの車の混雑税支払いのチェックも、境界の道路の隅に立っている狭い小屋から係員が目視でという方式から、境界をまたぐと車の中のプリペイカードから自動的に支払われるようになっていた。（シンガをモデルにしたロンドンでもそのうちそうなるのかしら。）どんどん進化していくシンガだけど、ホーカーで食べるヌードルは相変わらず一杯3ドル(1ポンド)前後で、地下鉄もS$1ちょっと（50P以下）で以前とあまり変わりがない。彼らの消費力がアップしているわけだ。

またシンガに住むことがあったら、20代の頃とは全く違った生活をするだろう。マンダリンや福建語を習って、地元に溶け込んでみるかな。暑さに弱い私に果たして、そんな機会があるかしら。ただ、シンガに「里帰り」して何日もいると、慣れ親しんだ地元で安心して往来している自分を発見する・・・。

We arrived in Heathrow early yesterday morning. During 13.5 hours flight, we all had at least 9 hours sleep. Well done! I really recommend night flights. A mini cab was waiting for us at the arrival gate, and we got home around 6:30 am. But..... we were locked out! The second lock, which we usually don't use and don't carry the key for, was locked by the landlady. It was only 6:30 am and we had to have an expensive breakfast at the nearby Holiday Inn hotel till 9 am, the time our estate agent opened.

I lived in Singapore 10 years ago. To meet up with all my old friends or eat all my favourite food and have foot massages, 2 days are not enough. So, we'd changed our flight and stayed in Singapore longer than planned.

Luckily, we could manage to meet Tony just after we arrived at the airport. He was stopping over in Singapore for a couple of hours on his way back. I could also make contact with my ex-colleague, Mindy. Glynis and Ken's family took us to a dinner. Their 5 year old daughter Kei enjoyed playing with Arata! Of course, we met Ting and Paul nearly every day.

In the last 10 years, lots more air-conditioned food courts and coffee bars have opened. And there are many more foot massage places. I'm quite sure they are all aiming at tourists from Japan. Congestion charge is now paid by pre-paid card when cars cross the borders. Singapore is evolving. But a bowl of noodles is still around S$3 (about 1 pound) and a tube ride is around S$1 plus. No wonder economic power is bigger now.

If I have another chance to live in Singapore, I will have a completely different life style. I will probably learn Mandarin or Hokken and immerse myself into the society? Well, am I going to have such a chance? I shouldn't forget that I can't stand the heat. But as days went by, I found myself walking around Singapore feeling very safe as if I were at home....

4W4D ならない気がする

シンガポールからのフライト前に、そろそろDueなので生理用品も手荷物に入れた。妊娠にちょっと期待している。でも、「ならなきゃいいなあ」というより、「ならない気がする」とどこかで思っていたのが不思議。

1Y0M よく歩くねぇ Walking a lot

今日もウエリントンにあるTE PAPAへ。TE PAPAは洒落たミュージアムでニュージーランドの歴史や自然が盛りだくさん。遊びながら学ぶ子ども用のエリアもたくさんあって、アラタがもう少し大きくなったらいいかもしれない。TE PAPA のカフェがとてもよく、シンガポールの6スターホテルのロビーのようだから、ついつい3回も来てしまった。入場料は無料。

アラタは自分でバギーを押しながら歩く歩く。シンガポールで買ったサンダルが歩くたびにキュッキュッいうのでちょっとひんしゅくだったかしら。それからアラタ、そろそろ髪の毛を切らないといけないかなあ。今日も女の子と間違えられた。アラタは何か面白いものをみつけると、「あ」とか「お」とか、日本人のよう。最近はそれが欲しいと、指差して、その後自分の方に向けて手のひらを「こっち、こっち」というように動かしたり、「もってこいよ」と言わんばかりに写真のように自分を指差す。

Jasonママのお姉さんの金婚式が土曜日にネピアという街である。親戚一同が集まるそのパーティー出席のため明日からネピアに泊りがけ。日曜日にはニュージーランドを発ってシンガポールで少し遊んでからロンドンへ。そして月末には職場復帰する私。長かった休暇もあとわずか。

We went to Te Papa in Wellington again. It was our 3rd time!! Te Papa is a nicely designed museum. I especially like the cafe, which is like the hotel lobby of a Singapore's 6 star hotel. There are lots of areas for children to play and learn about New Zealand. When Arata gets a bit older, they will be really interesting for him.

Arata walked lots today. He was pushing his buggy in his squeaqy sandals we bought in Singapore. Arata was mistaken as a girl again. He needs hair cut, we reckon. Arata often says 'A' or 'Oh' when he finds something interesting. If he really wants it, he then, points the thing and moves his hand towards himself or points to himself as he is doing in a photo here.

We are going to Napier to attend Nana's sisters' 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday. We are then flying out of New Zealand on Sunday, staying in Singapore for a couple of days, and heading home. Well, my long long holiday is nearly end. I am going back to work in the end of January...

1Y0M パパも食べなよ Eat this, daddy!

Seal（とど？おっとせい？？）が見られるいうレッドロックへ行った。日差しが強い中、往復2時間ぐらい歩いたが、冬にしか見られないということで、もしかしたらという期待もあったのだが残念ながら会えなかった。お昼は180度海が見渡せるカフェで。本当にニュージーランドのカフェはおいしい。少し洋食でも作ってみようかなあという気にさせてくれる。

今日のアラタは面白かった。レッドロックから戻って、梨を食べていたのだが、両手に一切れずつもって、ナナ、Jason、私の座っているところをまわって「食べなよ」とフィードしてくれた。自分の口に一回入れて出したのとか、床に落として拾ったのとか、いろいろあったけど、私たちはおかしくておかしくて、なんでも食べてあげたわ。

We went to Red rocks, hoping to see some seals. But as warned at the entrance, we couldn't see them. They are mainly there in winter.... Apart from that, we had a good long walk alongside the sea. On our way back, we had a nice lunch at a cafe overlooking sea. Cafe food in NZ is so nice and even I feel like to copy some of the dishes.

Arata was really funny today. When we were having pear back home, he started to walk around to feed us the pear. He was holding a piece each in both hands and came to us one by one to put one of them into our mouths. He was doing it till all the pieces were gone. Often he fed us with the one he'd just spit out or the one he picked up from the floor but it was so funny and cute, we could not complain.

1Y0M 同じ髪型 Same hair style

今日は近所のラグーンにお散歩へ。ここのプレイグラウンドは充実。アラタぐらいの子どもでも楽しめるような小型のジムエリアがあった。アラタは階段を上ったり、トンネルをくぐったり、滑り台をしたり（これはJasonに手伝ってもらって）、得意満面。Jasonママと一時間も遊んだのに、またみんなで戻るはめに。二人乗りのハンドルが二つ付いている消防車のおもちゃでは、両手で一つずつのハンドルを回す技も見せてくれた。

アラタは生まれた頃はストレートの黒髪で、髪を洗った後だけ縮れっ毛だった。今は、栗色で、前髪がストレートで後ろがウエイビー。日本とヨーロッパのハーフだからねえって思っていたが、実はJasonの遺伝だったと言うことが判明。Jasonが初めて髪を切る直前に撮ったという、18ヶ月の時の写真を発見。同じ髪型でしょ。

We went to nearby lagoon. We found a very nice small size gym for younger toddlers like Arata. Arata loved there. He spent one hour with Nana, and went back again with all of us together. He especially liked a fire engine, which has 2 handles for 2 kids. Arata was sitting on his own and was stearing the both of them!!

When Arata was born, his hair was black straight. It became very wavy only when it was wet. Now his hair is wavy brown with straight front fringe. I was thinking it's because he is half oriental and half European. But actually, it is Jason's gene! Look at these 2 photos. In this black and white photo, Jason was 18 months old, just before his first hair cut.

1Y0M バイバーイ Bye bye!

Jasonママのおうちは千客万来だ。クリスマスには親戚がたくさん集まったし、お友達がひょっこりお茶しに来たりする。この辺りはもちろん車がないと移動できないから、お客さんが帰るたびに玄関を出たところで車で出発する人たちを見送る。

まあ、そういうわけで、アラタは玄関の方を見ては手を振るし、車を見るたびに手を振るようになったから、外出すると大変だ。たくさんの（駐車中も含めて）車に手を振ることになる。そして、庭の木の葉が風に吹かれてゆれていると手を振る。葉っぱさんがアラタに手を振っているらしい。

Jason mother has s lot of visitors. In this area, everybody comes here by car and we often get out of the entrance to see them driving off. This is the reason that Arata has started to wave towards the entrance hall or when he sees a car. He has to wave to every single car even it is parking, it's quite a job for him when we are out!

And.... he also waves to the leaves in the garden. Because they are waving to him when wind blows....

1Y0M 謹賀新年 A happy new year!

1歳になったアラタの様子は・・・。お腹が空き過ぎている時、早く早く、と催促に叫ぶ。私たちの言葉をコピーする。ぱたぱたとよく歩く。部屋の隅に行って静かにうんちする。「ばいばい」という音に反応して誰にでも何にでも手を振る。ものの名前を少し覚えて、「ＸＸどこかな？」という質問に指差しで答える。今のところ、でんきとライト、時計とクロック、電話とフォンだけだけど、バイリンガル！椅子やソファーの後ろに隠れては「いないないばあ」
して楽しませてくれる。（ソファからアラタが半分見えている写真参照。）

他の写真は、Jasonに肩車されて興奮するアラタがパパの目に指を突っ込んでいるところ、ニュージーランドと言えば「バジービー」に乗っているアラタ、そして、今日、元旦に近所の入り江でピクニックをしながら海に入るアラタ。

Arata's latest developments.... He screams when he is too hungry, meaning, 'Give me food! Quick!' He copies some of our sentences or words. He walks quite well. He goes into the corner of a room to quietly poo. He waves his hand whenever he hears somebody saying 'Bye bye!' He replies to a question, 'Where is XXX?' by pointing the object. Getting bilingual; 'Clock', 'Light' and 'Phone' so far. He does Peek-a-boo hiding behind the sofa. (Please look at the one of the photos.)
